Erica Mahinay’s work navigates the boundary between painting and sculpture, creating a corporeal language that is both sinuous and sublime. Her abstract compositions dissolve into dense labyrinths of marks and textures, embodying an expressive, physical connection to the materials she uses. Known for her experimentation with diverse materials, Mahinay often paints on silk and other unconventional textiles such as parachute fabric. Background and Artistic Journey

Born in 1986 in Santa Fe, Erica Mahinay pursued her artistic education at the Kansas City Art Institute, where she earned her BA, before going on to receive her MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2013. Over the years, Mahinay has become well-known for her innovative use of materials and her ability to push the boundaries of painting. She has had solo exhibitions at prominent galleries including Lyles & King in New York, T293 in Rome, Ibid Gallery in Los Angeles, Jessica Silverman in San Francisco, and Loudhailer in Los Angeles.

Mahinay’s work continues to gain recognition in the art world. In 2023, she was featured in the prestigious Hammer Museum's Made in LA exhibition, part of the Los Angeles Biennial, Acts of Living. This recognition further solidifies her place as one of the prominent contemporary artists exploring abstraction, materiality, and the body in new and innovative ways.
