Ardeshir Tabriz - The Golden Hands of Time

Overview

Ardeshir Tabrizi’s solo exhibition The Golden Hands of Time marks a significant moment in Los Angeles’ vibrant art scene this fall. The exhibition showcases Tabrizi’s latest body of work, which features textile-based paintings that explore themes of cultural history, memory, and identity. Drawing from Persian heritage and weaving together symbolism, mythology, and personal narratives, Tabrizi creates intricate, visually compelling pieces that offer both a deeply personal and political reflection on the complexities of cultural heritage in an era shaped by globalization.
Tabrizi’s textile works combine embroidery, silkscreen, and painting to forge a hybrid artistic language that pays homage to art history, from the Renaissance to post-Warholian pop. These creations transcend time, bringing together ancient iconography and sacred imagery with a modern, exuberant color palette that challenges viewers to engage with the present moment. The tactile nature of his works breaks through the digital era’s obsession with the ready-made, conveying a profound beauty and emotionality.
The embroidered paintings become an intimate space where tradition and innovation merge, speaking to universal themes while remaining deeply rooted in Persian culture. By incorporating symbols and images important to diverse global audiences, ranging from Indian miniatures to family photographs, Tabrizi creates new, expanded meanings for sacred symbols. Through his innovative approach, including a new silkscreen technique, Tabrizi revisits religious iconography and gold leafing, further blending cultural elements with European painting traditions.
Tabrizi’s exploration of cultural dialogues and the power of art as both documentation and healing is central to his practice. His work addresses the intersection of cultural renewal and the historical understanding of heritage in contemporary society. Tabrizi’s deeply personal narrative emerges through the use of family photographs, creating a dialogue that resonates globally, transcending cultural specificity.
