Sir Tony Cragg (b. 1949, Liverpool) is one of the most significant sculptors of his generation. After studying at Wimbledon School of Art and the Royal College of Art, he moved to Wuppertal, Germany in 1977, where he continues to live and work. His practice encompasses two primary series: Early Forms, which reform everyday objects, and Rational Beings, which examine relationships between geometric and organic forms. Cragg received the Turner Prize in 1988, was appointed Commander of the British Empire in 2002, and received the Praemium Imperiale for Sculpture in 2007. He served as Director of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (2009–2013) and held the Chaire de Création Artistique at the Collège de France, Paris. He was knighted in 2016.
