Alessandra Sanguinetti

Alessandra Sanguinetti, a California-based photographer, embarked on her photographic journey at the age of nine, immersing herself in the captivating works of Michael Lesy, Dorothea Lange, and other luminaries from her mother's collection. Her academic pursuits led her to Anthropology at the University of Buenos Aires and General Studies at the International Center of Photography.

In 1996, Sanguinetti initiated a compelling series titled "On the Sixth Day," delving into the intricate relationship between humanity and domesticated animals in the rural landscapes of Argentina. Three years into this project, her focus shifted to two nine-year-old cousins, Belinda and Guille, who were previously subjects in "Sixth Day." Spanning five years, Sanguinetti's lens chronicled the evolution of the two girls into adulthood, resulting in a lifelong collaborative project. The initial five years culminated in the widely acclaimed monograph, "The Adventures of Belinda and Guille and the Meaning of their Enigmatic Dreams" (2010).

Recipient of prestigious accolades, including a Guggenheim Foundation fellowship and a Hasselblad Foundation grant, Sanguinetti's photographs find a home in both public and private collections, notably at the Museum of Modern Art (NY), San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, and Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Her lens has graced the pages of publications such as The New York Times Magazine, LIFE, Newsweek, and New York Magazine. Currently based in San Francisco, Sanguinetti has held a membership with Magnum since 2007.
